Alternative Curriculum

At Teddington School, we are committed to ensuring that every student leaves us Future Ready. Our bespoke Alternative Curriculum Pathway provides carefully tailored support for selected students in Years 8 to 11, enabling them to thrive through a personalised programme that complements and extends learning beyond the mainstream curriculum. 

This in-house four-year pathway offers students a range of enriching experiences and accredited learning opportunities designed to develop their confidence, skills and aspirations. Throughout the programme, students work towards a variety of AQA Unit Awards, gaining recognised certifications that enhance their achievement profile and contribute to a strong foundation for future education, employment or training. These additional certifications, alongside practical experiences, help students develop a broad skill set and a competitive CV. 

The Alternative Curriculum is built around the school's four Teddington Pillars, providing meaningful opportunities for students to strengthen their engagement with learning, develop their personal growth, and make positive contributions to both the school and wider community. Additional English and Mathematics provision is also incorporated to ensure students continue to build the core skills essential for future success. 

Intended Outcomes 

Through participation in the Alternative Curriculum Pathway, we aim to support students to: 

• Improve their engagement with school and learning 
• Increase attendance and punctuality 
• Reduce behavioural incidents and sanctions 
• Access targeted careers education, information, advice and guidance 
• Develop the skills, qualifications and confidence needed to progress successfully into education, employment or training 
• Leave school with positive destinations and ensure no student becomes NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) 

By combining personalised support, accredited learning and real-world experiences, the Alternative Curriculum Pathway helps students develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to become truly Future Ready.
