Our experienced SEND team provides a range of support tailored to individual needs, including in-class assistance, targeted interventions, literacy and numeracy support, social communication programmes, emotional wellbeing support, and exam access arrangements where appropriate. We work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure high-quality teaching remains at the heart of our provision.
Within the SEND Support Base we provide a welcoming and inclusive provision that supports students to overcome barriers to learning and engage successfully in their education. It offers a calm, structured environment where students can access short-term learning support, co-regulation or a quieter workspace when needed.
The SEND Support aims to:
- Provide a calm, safe and supportive environment where students feel valued, understood and respected.
- Support students to develop confidence, resilience, self-advocacy and independence.
- Equip students with strategies to manage challenges and return successfully to learning.
- Develop executive functioning skills such as organisation, planning, time management and self-regulation.
- Provide opportunities for students to strengthen their emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Encourage positive engagement with learning and improve access to the curriculum.
- Foster positive relationships between students, families, school staff and external professionals.
- Targeted support via interventions
At Teddington, we use a graduated approach to SEND support, ensuring that students receive the right level of provision at the right time. This process follows the Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) cycle, which enables us to identify needs, implement appropriate support, and monitor the impact of interventions effectively.
Assess: We gather information from teachers, parents/carers, the student, and, where appropriate, external professionals to build a clear understanding of a student's strengths, needs, and any barriers to learning.
Plan: Working collaboratively with students and families, we agree on specific outcomes and identify the strategies, adjustments, and interventions needed to support progress.
Do: The planned support is delivered, with high-quality teaching remaining at the heart of SEND provision. Additional interventions and reasonable adjustments are implemented where required.
Review: Progress is regularly monitored and evaluated to determine the effectiveness of the support provided. The student's views, alongside feedback from parents, staff, and professionals, inform next steps and future planning.
This cyclical process ensures that support remains responsive, personalised, and focused on helping every student achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.
