At Teddington, sport is for everyone. We promote equal opportunities and encourage all students to enjoy lifelong participation in physical activity.
We offer a wide range of exciting extra-curricular clubs — from kayaking to volleyball — led by staff or specialist coaches. These are open to all students, regardless of ability, and many are supported by partnerships with local organisations such as Teddington Hockey Club and the Royal Canoe Club.
Our outstanding facilities support a variety of sports, both within the curriculum and beyond. While all students take part in core PE lessons, extra-curricular opportunities allow them to build skills and gain additional experience. This has contributed to our success in numerous competitions.
We also host satellite clubs, run by external sports partners and open to students across the Borough of Richmond. These are advertised regularly, and some may require payment via ParentPay. Please note these clubs are not used for school team selection.
We take pride in offering a broad competitive programme, including Richmond Borough Leagues, the Middlesex Cup, Football National Cup, and the London Youth Games.
Sport at Teddington supports not only physical development but also self-esteem and confidence. Through inclusive participation and high-level performance, every student is given the opportunity to thrive.
Teddington Sports
At Teddington School, we are constantly striving to offer a full range of sporting opportunities for our students. We support the more traditional school sports but are always looking for ways for students to gain access to new experiences. Regular participation in any form of physical activity ensure students are ‘Healthy Learners’ who understand the impact it has on their physical and mental health.
Some sports on offer are:
Football | NFL Flag |
Netball | Benchball |
Rugby | Pop Lacrosse |
Handball | Tennis |
Volleyball | Martial Arts |
Table Tennis | Dance |
Hockey | Basketball |
Cricket | Athletics |
Badminton | Softball |
Beach Volleyball | Rounders |
We also value the importance of regular fixtures for those students who wish to push and test themselves in competition with other schools. We are proud to offer a wide range of sporting fixtures to suit a variety of abilities. Many of our teams perform well in bourough-led competitions and some make good progress in regional and national competitions.
Wimbledon Ball Boys and Girls
We are incredibly proud to be one of the select schools in the country that help train and provide Ball Boys and Girls (BBGs) for The Championships at Wimbledon — one of the most iconic sporting events in the world.
Each year, students in Year 9 and Year 10 are given the opportunity to take part in this prestigious programme. From September to December, selected students undergo a rigorous and highly disciplined training process that prepares them for the chance to represent the school — and the nation — on the global stage of Wimbledon.
Becoming a BBG requires commitment, teamwork, and exceptional focus. The training develops not only the physical skills needed to perform under pressure, but also instils values such as resilience, responsibility, and professionalism. It is a demanding process, but for those who are successful, the rewards are extraordinary.
Representing Wimbledon as a Ball Boy or Girl is an achievement that stays with students for life. It offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be part of a world-famous tournament, watched by millions worldwide, and to stand on court alongside some of the greatest athletes in tennis history.
This is one of the many unique opportunities available at our school, and we are immensely proud of every student who has taken part in the BBG programme. Their hard work and dedication reflect the high standards and spirit of excellence we encourage in all areas of school life.
