History

“If you don't know history, then you don't know anything. You are a leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree” - Michael Crichton

Teddington School’s history department is fully staffed with specialist teachers across all key stages.

The history curriculum is centred on a thematic scheme of learning, starting with Building Britain in Year 7, Changing Worlds in Year 8 and Power and Conflict in Year 9. Through this thematic learning, students are able to connect broader periods of history through multiple time periods, rather than study it as a sequence of events.  Our aim is to gain inspiring insights into the past, by exploring the origin story of modern society and culture both nationally and internationally. At GCSE we focus on 4 units, Medicine in Britain 1250 - present, the Cold War, Elizabeth I and Weimar and Nazi Germany. At A level, students study the French Revolution, Britain in Transformation and Civil Rights for the coursework element.
