Music

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” - Billy Joel

At Key Stage 3 Music lessons teach the three core skills of critical listening, performing and composing. These skills are taught through six units a year which include areas of popular music, classical music, world music and music for film.

At Key Stage 4 we offer Music Btec and Music GCSE. The Btec course teaches students about how the music industry works and also gives the students many opportunities to perform live, learn about controlling live sound, write songs and focus on musical features of different styles of popular music. Music GCSE gives students the opportunity to learn about styles of classical music, popular music, world music and film music. Students produce two compositions and two performances over the two years and finish with an exam that tests their listening and appraising skills.

At Key Stage 5 students can choose to take Level 3 Btec courses in Music Technology and/or Music Performance, each equivalent in size to one A-level.
